Sue Jarvis, Head of Education, Pennine House, Fairfield General HospitalI have known Carl Fisher for many years and have been fortunate in being able to invite him to work with children and young people across Key Stages 2, 3, 4 and 5, in a range of educational settings including mainstream, special and CAMHS In-patient schools. Carl is extremely well respected in his field and has an international reputation within the martial arts community as both a competitor and a teacher. His sports science degree compliments his extensive experience in Jiu Jitsu and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and enables him to teach young people not only the basics of martial arts and self-defence in a safe and non-threatening manner, but also the benefits of sport and exercise to promote physical and emotional well-being. His visits are always highly enjoyable experiences for the students; he is able to bring a sense of fun to each occasion and has even encouraged several students to take up the sport with much success. Carl has full DBS clearance and I would not hesitate to invite him to my school again.
Sophie Barclay, Year 5 Teacher, Eagley Junior School, BoltonCarl came into our school last year to teach a lesson of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu to my Year 5 class, as part of our topic on Brazil. This involved teaching the children basic moves, and then supervising them whilst they had the opportunity to practise, both individually and with a partner. Throughout the lesson, Carl was organised, and his manner with the children was excellent, ensuring a safe environment in which they could learn. Not only did Carl teach this lesson on a voluntary basis, but he was also keen to share stories and photos with the children from his time living in Brazil, which added so much more to the children's learning. Carl was an absolute pleasure to have in school, and the children talked about their experience of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu for the rest of their school year!
Nayden Naydenov, BJJ StudentI have been training BJJ with Carl for the last seven months; over the years I was doing different activities but since I stepped on the mats at Wimbledon, I've met a great coach and great team mates. BJJ is perfect for any age; don't leave it until tomorrow, just come and feel some awesomeness. Ooss!
