I’m busy and can only train once a week – is that ok?
Yes that’s fine, you can train with us as much or as little as you like.
What is the belt system in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu?
The first belt is white, then blue, purple brown and black.
How long does it take to get my black belt?
How long is a piece of string?!
Brazilian Jiu Jitsu does not have regular grading sessions like the traditional martial arts; grades are all performance related and time limits vary from person to person. When your instructor thinks you are ready for the next belt promotion, then you are ready and you have to defend your belt rank every time you step onto the mat. This leads to a high drop out rate when people get to blue belt (the first colour promotion). Getting to black belt in BJJ can take many years, but don’t let this put you off; enjoy the journey instead, train with dedication and the belts look after themselves.
