How many times a week can I train?

As many times as you like. Wimbledon BJJ offers a pay-as-you-go option, as well as monthly fees and insurance is compulsory. All info can be found in the Timetable section on the website

I’m busy and can only train once a week – is that ok?

Yes that’s fine, you can train with us as much or as little as you like.

Do I need to get fit first before I start classes?

No, just come down and take a free class, take it from there and speak to the Instructor if you have any health issues beforehand.

Do I need any equipment?

Not at the start, you will need t-shirt/shorts/sports bra/leggings to start with and then we can get you sized up for Jiu Jitsu uniforms and other training equipment.

What is the belt system in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu?

The first belt is white, then blue, purple brown and black.

Can I compete?

Of course you can! Competing is actively encouraged at the club, though not compulsory and we have a very successful competition team here at the club, medalling in Gi and No Gi at prestigious events such as ADCC, NAGA and Grappling Industries and many other comps, as well as opportunities to fight in Mixed Martial Arts (MMA)

How long does it take to get my black belt?

How long is a piece of string?!

Brazilian Jiu Jitsu does not have regular grading sessions like the traditional martial arts; grades are all performance related and time limits vary from person to person. When the instructor thinks you are ready for the next belt promotion, then you are ready!

Getting to black belt in BJJ can take many years, but don’t let this put you off; enjoy the journey instead, train with dedication, enjoy every class and the belts look after themselves.
